San Carlos Clinical Hospital is a Health Center that since its establishment in 1787 has among its objectives the improvement of care, teaching and research. Rebuilt in the 60’s, located in its current location, has been modified and adapted to the demands of Madrid society, being a national and international benchmark for the level of its facilities and its professionals.
Royal Decree 1479/2001 of 27 December, transfers of functions and services of the National Health Institute to the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, integrating into the Health Network of the Madrid Health Institute.
The Hospital has more than 5,000 professionals, being the main reference center in the training of health professionals of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
The building is built in a monoblock with an area of 175,000 square meters, and its structures are transformed from annual investment programs to favor improvements in infrastructure, incorporating new technologies and equipment, making the Center more comfortable for patients and family members.
The Clinical Hospital also has the Modesto Lafuente Specialties Centers and Avenida de Portugal, as well as the Mental Health Centers: Ponzano Day Hospital, Centro Mental Health Center, Galiana Mental Health Center and Las Águilas Mental Health Center.
